Adding or Changing Scoping Levels in MassCat

The PAC Administration function of the MassCat database allows libraries to make some changes to their OPAC search screens.  Most notably the PAC Admin function allows MassCat member libraries the ability to create and/or modify scoping levels and to add or remove libraries from these levels.

To Create or Modify Scoping Levels:

Login to MassCat using your library code, username and password:

Click on the “Staff Menu” button on the toolbar:

You will need to switch to the “Pac Admin” mode.  To do this, click on the “Pac Admin” button on the toolbar:

Click on the “Define/Maintain Scoping Levels” option on the menu at the left side of the screen:

A menu called “Define Scoping Levels” will appear.  You may add a new scoping level to this list or change the name of an existing scoping level here:

Click the “Submit” button once you have created the name for a new scoping level.  When the screen refreshes, a “configure” button will appear to the right of the new scoping level name you have created:

Once the scoping level name is created, you must then add libraries to the scoping level in order for the system to work properly!  To add or delete libraries in a scoping level, click on the “configure” button to the right of the scoping level you wish to work on:

A menu of all the libraries in the MassCat system will appear.  Scroll through the list and find the libraries you wish to add to the scoping level.  Place a check mark to the left of the libraries you wish to add:

To delete a library from a scoping level, simply remove the check mark to the left of the library’s name.

Be sure to click on the “Submit” button at the top of the page you are working on before you move on to the next page of library names.  If you do not click on “Submit” before changing to the next page of names, your choices will be lost!!!

Logout of the database once your work is complete.
